Obama Plan Doesn't Go Far Enough on Deficit Reduction
Russo: "like trying to use a spoon to shovel a car out from a blizzard"

Fairfield - In his first State of the Union Address, President Barack Obama will unveil a plan to stop increases in discretionary non-defense spending for the next three years. This plan will save taxpayers no more than $15 billion next year while the federal budget deficit is anticipated to surpass $1 trillion yet again.

"President Obama's actions are like trying to use a spoon to shovel a car out from a blizzard" said Rob Russo. "We need leaders in Washington fighting to reduce the size and scope of government, not making hollow gestures when poll numbers sink to try to appease an angry public."

Jim Himes and this Democrat-controlled Congress passed big spending bill after big spending bill. Jim Himes supported a $787 billion "Stimulus Package" that has done nothing to stimulate the economy and a $900 billion healthcare bill that will only add to the out-of-control costs of entitlement programs. Because of a failure to control spending, this year's federal deficit is $1.35 trillion.

The entire budget of the United States is $3.5 trillion. The total budget of the areas where this spending freeze applies is $447 billion.
