Fairfield - Congressman Jim Himes has signed a letter to President Obama calling on him to pressure Israel to ease security measures on Israel's border with Gaza. Gaza is currently controlled by Hamas. The United States classifies Hamas as a terrorist organization. This letter, signed by Jim Himes and 53 of his colleagues, thanks President Obama for distributing over $300 million in aid to Gaza and calls on Israel to ease the security along the border with Gaza despite the fact that Israelis must deal with rockets being fired from Gaza killing Israeli citizens.

"By signing this letter, Jim Himes is putting Middle East politics above the safety of the Israeli people." said Rob Russo. "The United States should not be in the business of telling Israel how it can and cannot protect its people."

"Israel is a beacon of freedom in the Middle East and a great ally of the United States." Russo added. "As a member of Congress, I will fight to ensure we protect Israel while at the same time encouraging the peace process in the Middle East."
